I purchased this product directly from Mann Lake rather than through Amazon.

The top cover is beautiful - very nice copper slanted top, high-quality wood (make sure you stain or prime and paint it for longevity). The copper comes covered with film, so don't remove it until after you applied paint, as not to get any on the copper.

The inner cover - that's a different story.
Most inner covers these days have a flat side (to face down during the summer), a slightly sunk-in side (to face up during the summer), and a notch on the sunken side that gives bees an upper entrance.
Mann Lake offer both that style of inner cover and a more "primitive" one, in which both sides are half-sunk-in and there is no notch or groove. The price difference between the two is $1 on their site, but what they ship with the top-cover is the groove-less flavor of it.

Therefore, I suggest not buying this item but getting the top-cover without the inner cover, then buying the inner cover separately. Hence the lost two stars on my review.
