The Lexington Planters are an example of fine craftsmanship and ultimate quality. Each upright finial is turned on a lathe from one solid piece of wood. All components are smoothly sanded and finished planters are painted with durable UV rated exterior paint. Can be used for direct planting with a plastic liner or will hold a 16-inch grow pot.

This is my original review, but please go to the end to see my most recent comments in 2012.

The main reason that this planter gets three stars is that on November 8 Amazon ran them for $16.90, including super saver shipping, apiece. That is about what they are worth for these reasons.

1. While the enamel blue paint is pretty, it is cracked in several places on every side of the item. This product was made in China, and it shows.

2. Neither of the two planters came with the package of screws necessary to put them together. Hopefully you get the assembly instructions sheet because that has the name of the company, DMC Products, Inc. and the address in Pennsylvania. You have to Google the company name and match to the company's address to find the right website. Once there, there is an online form which you can use to contact them if you need the hardware. Don't bother to try the toll-free number listed because it's been disconnected, and you will be referred to a porn line (yes, really).

3. It took my husband about 30 minutes to put two of them together, mainly because imbedded screws in some panels were already stripped. This made it difficult to assemble them, and as a result they are not as sturdy as they could be.

If you pay the currently stated price of $59.99 for these, you will be very disappointed in the quality.

December 29, 2009 update: The company did ship out the screws, but the description on Amazon also said that plastic liners would be included, and they also were not. I contacted the company again and was told that this was an error in the description, that there are no plastic liners. I stand by my rating; this is not an item that I would recommend.

April 20, 2010 update: These planters have been outside, but under an eave, protected from rain, etc., because I suspected that the paint finish might be fragile. It is. The paint on both of the planters has cracked and has started flaking and peeling off. These are only six months old. Also, know that the seller absolutely will not send you the liners. If I could, I would change my rating to one star.

August 13, 2011 update: It is possible now to change the rating to one star. Do not buy this item.

April 29, 2012 update: The paint has pretty much chipped or peeled off both containers, and they are not even in direct sunlight. There is some sort of thin white undercoating beneath the paint before getting to the wood, which makes them look terrible. This was one of the top five worst purchases I have made on Amazon in over 10 years.
