I bought this stove, because I wanted to have an alternate means of cooking, in case of an emergency. Now that I do have it, I wish I would have gotten the one that was a step down. Aside from that, I think it's a decent product for the money (accept the shipping to Alaska part). One thing to note, the wire they give you to pull the wick through, didn't work too well, mine broke quickly, after two wicks in my case. I quickly came up with the idea to use some fishing line (I used 40lb test I think), to pull the wicks through, with great ease and success. Take a length of the fish line, about 1.5 to 2 ft, bend it in half, push that through the top of the tube, when the loop comes through the bottom, insert your wick through it, to the half way point, then pull back up on the top side fish line, until the wick is out the top. Use the same piece of fish line, and same technique for the rest of the wicks. It's not a very durable/tough stove, but it's simple and dependable. You have to find, or make a cooking stand, if you want to use it for extra huge and heavy canning pots, full of food, jars, and water. Should be strong enough for any normal cooking duties, with out the need for a special stand over it. I think the model below this one, is better suited for every day, normal size pots and pans. I went for this one, because I opted for the most powerful. After testing it, I should have gone for the most practical, but I was really unsure which one to get, with out ever seeing and using one before. I would recommend, at least a set of extra wicks, but in a pinch, almost anything will work, even a dry cotton mop head can be turned into usable wicks in a pinch. This is great to have for an emergency cooking stove. It works great, and gets very hot. It's very simple, and easy to operate. Construction quality is not exactly anything to brag about, but it will fill its role for me just fine. I waxed and shined mine all over, to preserve it. Do not wax the generator, or where the wicks go like I did, or you will have problems with the generator sticking, and the wicks will have a hard time adjusting. I eventually got it back working properly, but had a little scare. Hope this helped. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Butterfly #2698 14k BTU 22-Wick Kerosene Cook and Canning Stove" are high quality item.
